Choosing Between XM and Sirius for Your Car’s Sound System
Think long and hard about whether a Sirius or XM Satellite Radio subscription would be useful for your next car stereo system if you’re in the market for one. These two subscription services are similar in that they both need specific hardware to function, yet they both provide fantastic benefits to their users. So, before you get your car stereo set up, you’ll need to make a decision on which provider you want to utilize.
Each of these options has its own unique selling point that makes it suitable for a wide range of consumers. In the realms of music radio and talk radio, you’ll hear some fantastic rivalry between the two. You should subscribe to one of them if you’re a serious talk radio fan because it contains a plethora of excellent shows. The banal and the provocative are both present. It appears that satellite radio, which includes hosts like Oprah Winfrey and Howard Stern, is not only popular but also here to stay.
The fact that XM Satellite Radio has a significant subscriber advantage has been mentioned numerous times. This is accurate, but it’s worth noting that new subscribers are more likely to choose Sirius as their satellite radio provider than the long-standing favorite. It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly why XM Satellite Radio is currently enjoying such a great lead or why Sirius has attracted so many new customers because I haven’t seen any apparent leader among the competitors.
In any case, if you’re even somewhat interested in this, you should look into both websites and make up your own mind about which one (if either) appeals to you more and whether or not the investment and subscription price are worthwhile.
On the other hand, XM Satellite Radio appears to be offering customers significantly better gifts right now. However, I must admit that I am a bit taken aback by the large number of new subscribers opting for Sirius instead of XM. Obviously, as a self-proclaimed “gadget geek,” my assumption is based on the fact that XM appears to offer significantly superior toys.
Currently, XM is selling some awesome devices that serve as XM Satellite Radio receivers and also have GPS capabilities, so you can get directions and use them with ease. In addition to playing various media formats, several of these devices can play DVDs, CDs, and MP3s.
Sirius also offers a lot to its subscribers; I’m just more excited about some of the things on XM that I haven’t seen enough of anywhere else. It would appear that both have comparable musical styles, lineups, etc. The talk radio lineup is no different.
As far as I can see, the devices are the sole real distinction between the two. Quite a bit of pricing competition exists as well. The only other thing that stands out to me is that XM Satellite Radio offers a five-year plan for almost the same price as Sirius’s lifetime membership. To be clear, the lifetime membership does not apply to the subscriber themselves, but rather to the gadget they purchase.
Another thing to keep in mind is that getting satellite radio probably won’t get rid of the need for a new car stereo, but it can limit your options for speakers.
The abundance of devices offered by both brands is something I’ve seen. If you want to listen to the fantastic music that satellite radio plays every day in your car, you’ll have a lot of work ahead of you picking out the components for your sound system.
